Best Pizzerias in Cilento: a Journey Through Authentic Flavours and New Standouts
If you are looking for the best pizzerias in Cilento, here are six places we recommend to our guests: from Vallo della Lucania to Pioppi, between contemporary pizzas, ruota di carro and Cilentan ammaccata.
Cilento is a land of authentic flavours, where rural tradition now meets remarkable culinary creativity. In recent years, pizza has taken on a leading role here too, evolving through ancient grains, local ingredients and skilled dough makers. If you are staying at Agriturismo San Giorgio, you will be spoiled for choice when it comes to enjoying a memorable pizza experience.
Six pizzerias we love recommending
Stratto (Vallo della Lucania)
In the heart of , about 20 minutes from us, Stratto offers an excellent balance between tradition and innovation. The dough is light and fragrant, with top-quality ingredients.
Try: the Piazza dei Martiri, with yellow datterino tomatoes, Cilentan sausage, buffalo mozzarella and goat cacioricotta. A gourmet-style pizza in a modern, carefully designed setting.
Arte Bianca (Velina)
is a local reference point. It stands out for its airy, soft cornicione. One special detail? You can choose the ruota di carro style, in line with the oldest Neapolitan tradition.
Try: the Marinara a ruota di carro, to rediscover simple yet deeply authentic flavours.
Porta Rosa (Ascea)
Located in , just a short distance from the ancient charm of Velia, Porta Rosa combines elegance and flavour. It is the ideal choice for a more refined dinner after a day among ruins and sea views.
Try: the Pancetta, with fior di latte, Cilentan pancetta, provola and cherry tomatoes. Rich and satisfying, without becoming too heavy.
L'Ammaccata - Antica Pizza Cilentana (Casal Velino)
A short distance from our agriturismo, offers an intimate, evocative atmosphere where you can rediscover an ancient Cilentan recipe. The star here is the traditional pizza, still shaped by hand by "pressing" the dough firmly from the centre towards the edges, just as it used to be done.
The old flavour: with slow-cooked tomato and a final grating of goat cacioricotta, it feels like a direct dive into the past.
La Scostumata (Omignano)
Moving inland, serves a pizza full of character and generous with toppings. The atmosphere is convivial and ideal if you enjoy more creative pairings.
Try: the pizza in pala with corn flour dough, especially the Stracciata e Autunno version. Soft, crisp and very flavourful.
Al Vuttaro (Pioppi)
In the seaside village of , homeland of the Mediterranean Diet, Al Vuttaro is something of an institution. The pizza here has a tall, soft dough with a lightly crisp base.
The house specialty is the Bufalina, with plenty of tomato, buffalo mozzarella, basil and a generous drizzle of local extra virgin olive oil. Perfect for an evening that continues with a walk along Pioppi's seafront or towards nearby Acciaroli.
One last tip
Cilento is wonderfully generous at the table, and these places are often in high demand. We recommend booking in advance, especially on weekends, so you can enjoy the evening without worries. Ready to choose your favourite?
