Elea, later called Velia by the Romans, is an ancient city of Ancient Greece, the birthplace of the philosophers of the Eleatic school, as Parmenides
and Zeno. Built on a promontory along the coast, is now inland, due to the accumulation of sediments transported by rivers.
The magnificent ancient ruins include the extraordinary Porta Rosa, which is the only example of a round arch known in Greek architecture.
