The Bread of Trentinara (De.Co.) and "Vicci"
You cannot talk about Trentinara without smelling the scent of wheat. Here, baking is an ancient ritual, protected by the De.Co. (Municipal Denomination of Origin) certification.
Trentinara Bread is instantly recognizable: a thick, dark amber crust and a soft but compact crumb. It is made with durum wheat semolina flour, water, salt, and the precious sourdough (lu crisciuto). But there is a specialty you must try freshly baked: the Viccio.
- What is a Viccio? A doughnut-shaped (or braided) dough that was once used to "test" the oven temperature before baking the large loaves.
- How to eat it: Warm, simply seasoned with Cilento extra virgin olive oil, salt, and oregano. Or filled with dried tomatoes or local cold cuts.
Local tip: Look for historic bakeries in the village or attend the Bread Festival (usually in August) to see it being made live.

It is the perfect place for sunset when the sun goes down right behind the island of Capri.
The Legend of Saul and Isabella

He, a bandit leader; she, the daughter of the local marquis. Opposed by their families, the two lovers met secretly at the "Preta 'ncatenata" (the chained stone), two enormous boulders that seem to embrace.
